Essential Skills for an Integrator

When it comes to developing the skills necessary to become an EOS Integrator, we put great stock in helping our people become the best that they can be. We choose to lead by example, giving our future Integrators a model to build upon for themselves.

The following list of leadership skills is just a small sampling of what we as a company believes is necessary to succeed as an Integrator—or really in any form of leadership. Whether you are a manager at McDonald's or a CEO, you need to be able to master—and continue to master—these skills of leadership to effectively lead your team to success.

1. Authenticity

First and foremost, a leader must be authentic. What you see needs to
be what you get. While no one should ever judge another person based solely on appearance,
the appearance of our actions should match the integrity put behind them.

Americans have the tendency to look busy when they really are just playing Galaga on their phone or re-watching Return of the Jedi for the umpteenth time in their head. A true leader needs to put authentic work into his actions. This will be seen by the results these actions yield.

Busy people put in a ton of busy work and have very little to show for
it. Authentically productive people have data to back up
their hours logged.

2. Communication

Communication goes far beyond the ability to construct a grammatically
correct email—though those are always appreciated.Leadership caliber communication is the kind of communication that is direct and gets the message across, but in a human way. Taking into account an
employee’s humanity is absolutely essential to communicating effectively. This comes through the practice of active listening.Rather than listening with the intention to respond, a leader will listen to not just the words an employee says, but the meaning behind the words. The leader will study body language, tone, and remember information about the employee that might say why the employee is speaking the way they
are. “Perhaps Mary isn’t trying to be lazy by taking an afternoon off… Isn’t her child in the hospital?”

Active listening also allows leaders to know when employees are trying to pull one over on them. By paying attention to every mode of communication, and responding accordingly—with a level head—an EOS Integrator is able to tell when Mary is genuinely upset vs. when she’s just trying to get a bonus she doesn’t deserve.

3. Clear Vision

While some people believe that committing to a clear vision leads to tunnel vision, when implemented correctly this form of intent is an incredible motivator for both leader and employees alike.

Having a company’s mission right in front of you is an excellent guide for ensuring all your short and long term goals are staying on task. This also allows you as a leader to make tough executive decisions not based on feeling, but based on the true ethos of the company. This will help the company pull through difficult times and come out thriving on the other side. Sticking to your integrity through this process is absolutely key.

4.Flexibility

The world is not a black and white place. While having a no-compromise
the attitude in some situations is incredibly noble—see integrity—in other
situations, problem-solving requires a bit more tact. Some issues—be they PR,
HR, or product related—simply do not have a ride or die solutions.In these cases, a leader needs to be flexible enough to adapt within the situation to ensure the issue bends in a positive way. Realistic optimism is key here. Recognizing your team’s capabilities—and being honest about your possible shortcomings—are
the way to come up with an action plan that will help your company come out of the circumstance.

Conclusion

In short, the leadership skills required is to be genuinely excited about engaging employees, consumers, and a variety of different scenarios that come your way with a positive attitude. While not
every aspect of the job is glamorous—and you don’t even have to smile about
it—having a winning attitude is more about mindset and consistency than it is
about emotion. Consistently implement the above four skills and you are well on
your way to being leadership material.
